Musings of An Old Man

by Brian K. Moore

ANNIVERSARY 62... WHOOPS!

ONE YEAR AGO I WROTE A POEM,
FOR ANNIVERSARY 63,

IT WAS A REAL NICE POEM,
AS NICE AS IT COULD BE,

BUT WHEN I OFFERED IT TO YOU,
I FOUND TO MY DISMAY,

WE’D JUST BEEN MARRIED 62.
WHAT WAS THERE I COULD SAY?

I SAID I’LL CHANGE THE NUMBERS.
THAT SHOULD BE THE CURE.

BUT 63 WAS IN THE RHYME,
THAT WOULDN’T WORK FOR SURE.

SO I JUST SAID “I’LL WAIT A YEAR,
TILL THE NUMBERS COINCIDE”.

THEN I’LL PRESENT IT,
HAVE NO FEAR,

IT’S RIGHT THIS TIME,
MY BRIDE.

AND SO TO YOU THIS VERSE,
I GIVE A SECOND TIME.

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE,
TO WASTE THIS 63 RHYME.

AND HERE, WITH ALL MY LOVE,
IS THIS BALLAD TO YOU FROM ME.

NOW ALL THINGS ABOVE,
IT’S REALLY 63.
